We are thrilled to celebrate a major achievement for Hineraukatauri me Te Ara Pūoro by Elizabeth Gray, which has recently been recognised at the 2025 New Zealand Book Awards for Children and Young Adults. This beautifully crafted book, written in te reo Māori, has captured the hearts of young readers and judges alike.
Margaret Aull has been a driving force behind the revitalisation of taonga pūoro, leading Haumanu Collective through five transformative years. From building the foundations of a national kaupapa to launching groundbreaking resources like Oro Rua and He Kete Pūoro, her leadership has blended cultural depth with creative innovation—laying a legacy that continues to inspire ngā toi Māori.
On Saturday 29 March 2025, the Haumanu Collective hosted our very first digital wānanga — Protecting Taonga Pūoro in the Digital Age.
Following the devastation caused by Cyclone Gabrielle, the whenua and people of Kahungunu have carried heavy mamae. In response, the Haumanu Collective, in partnership with local practitioners and community leaders, hosted Haumanu ki Kahungunu—a three-day wānanga exploring taonga pūoro as a powerful tool for healing, reconnection, and cultural revitalisation.
