Over the course of the three-day w\u0101nanga, they demonstrated how these ancient instruments can be used as powerful tools for rongo\u0101 (healing), sharing their knowledge of how sound vibrations interact with the mauri (life force) to promote wellness and balance.\u00a0<\/p><p>One of the highlights of the w\u0101nanga was the hands-on learning around harakeke (flax) and its care. Wh\u0101nau had the chance to reconnect with the whenua (land) by learning sustainable harvesting practices and understanding the spiritual significance of harakeke. This, combined with the healing power of taonga p\u016boro, created a holistic experience that left participants feeling uplifted and grounded.<\/p><p>The w\u0101nanga wasn\u2019t just about teaching rongo\u0101; it was also about fostering whanaungatanga\u2014bringing people together to share in a collective journey of growth and learning. Wh\u0101nau bonded through group activities, shared kai, and k\u014drero, all while being enveloped in the welcoming embrace of Whakapaumahara Marae.<\/p><p>The success of the w\u0101nanga was evident not only in the knowledge shared and the skills learned but in the sense of unity and wh\u0101nau that emerged from the experience. There has been a revival of this craft over the last 30-40 years, led by the late Hirini Melbourne, Richard Nunns, Brian Flintoff and Ringinui Keefe, Joe Malcolm, Clem Mellish, Rangiiria Hedley, Aroha Yates Smith, and Hinewirangi Kohu Morgan, Ross and Bruce Gregory, Te Miringa Hohaia and others.  Haumanu has grown from these initiatives.
