The scene was set with a k\u014drero on the settlement of <strong data-start=\"928\" data-end=\"957\">Ng\u0101ti Waewae and K\u0101i Tahu<\/strong> in Te Tai Poutini, highlighting the iwi\u2019s development and the significance of the new marae wharenui.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1063\" data-end=\"1215\">On behalf of the manuhiri, <strong data-start=\"1090\" data-end=\"1107\">James Webster<\/strong> responded with a <strong data-start=\"1125\" data-end=\"1139\">whaik\u014drero<\/strong>, followed by the waiata <strong data-start=\"1164\" data-end=\"1174\">K\u014dhatu<\/strong>\u2014a tribute to the taonga of the region.<\/p>\n<p data-start=\"1217\" data-end=\"1513\">After a <strong data-start=\"1225\" data-end=\"1240\">group photo<\/strong>, whakawhanaungatanga activities brought everyone together, setting the tone for the weekend. <strong data-start=\"1334\" data-end=\"1352\">Ema Weepu and Missy Campbell<\/strong> then shared knowledge about <strong data-start=\"1381\" data-end=\"1448\">Arahura Marae, Te Tai Poutini, its people, the awa, and pounamu<\/strong>, grounding participants in the history and mana of the whenua.<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n \t<li data-start=\"1515\" data-end=\"1792\"><strong data-start=\"1518\" data-end=\"1534\">Ng\u0101ti Waewae<\/strong> are mana whenua for <strong data-start=\"1555\" data-end=\"1575\">Te Tai o Poutini<\/strong>, from <strong data-start=\"1582\" data-end=\"1649\">Kahurangi Point in the north to the Hokitika River in the south<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"1650\" data-end=\"1653\" \/>They also share interests with <strong data-start=\"1687\" data-end=\"1728\">Ng\u0101ti M\u0101haki (Te R\u016bnanga o Makaawhio)<\/strong> in the area between the Hokitika River and the Pouerua River.<\/li>\n \t<li data-start=\"1794\" data-end=\"2085\">With these stories anchoring us, the w\u0101nanga transitioned into <strong data-start=\"1857\" data-end=\"1890\">the first series of workshops<\/strong>:<br data-start=\"1891\" data-end=\"1894\" \/>\ud83c\udfb6 Half the group engaged in an <strong data-start=\"1926\" data-end=\"1953\">oro composition session<\/strong>, exploring sound and storytelling.<br data-start=\"1988\" data-end=\"1991\" \/>\ud83c\udfbc The other half began crafting <strong data-start=\"2024\" data-end=\"2033\">nguru<\/strong>, shaping these beautiful taonga with their hands.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-start=\"2087\" data-end=\"2331\">The intensity of creating and composing carried through the afternoon, leading into the evening, where <strong data-start=\"2190\" data-end=\"2208\">Jamie Whittle (Pz)<\/strong> shared <strong data-start=\"2216\" data-end=\"2275\">k\u014drero on the whakairo and construction of the wharenui<\/strong>, deepening our understanding of the space we were in.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f48ac82 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"f48ac82\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">W\u0101nanga Day Two: R\u0101kaunui<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f833924 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"f833924\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"2374\" data-end=\"2540\">Under the guiding light of <strong data-start=\"2401\" data-end=\"2413\">R\u0101kaunui<\/strong>, the full moon, <strong data-start=\"2430\" data-end=\"2488\">the day began at sunrise with a karanga ki Tamanuiter\u0101<\/strong>, acknowledging the new day and the journey ahead.<\/p><p data-start=\"2542\" data-end=\"2842\">After breakfast, <strong data-start=\"2559\" data-end=\"2573\">Tony Smith<\/strong> led a <strong data-start=\"2580\" data-end=\"2637\">full-group workshop on tetere, poi piu, and poi raup\u014d<\/strong>, showcasing how taonga p\u016boro can be crafted from natural materials found in <strong data-start=\"2714\" data-end=\"2726\">te taiao<\/strong>. He shared insights into their traditional uses and their significance in ceremony, storytelling, and daily life.<\/p><p data-start=\"2844\" data-end=\"3002\">To lift the <strong data-start=\"2856\" data-end=\"2865\">mauri<\/strong> before the next session, <strong data-start=\"2891\" data-end=\"2908\">James Webster<\/strong> hosted <strong data-start=\"2916\" data-end=\"2937\">a series of games<\/strong>, energizing the group and reinforcing the sense of connection.<\/p><p data-start=\"3004\" data-end=\"3254\">Following paramanawa (morning tea), workshops resumed with participants swapping roles:<br data-start=\"3091\" data-end=\"3094\" \/>\ud83d\udd39 Those who had made <strong data-start=\"3116\" data-end=\"3125\">nguru<\/strong> now stepped into the <strong data-start=\"3147\" data-end=\"3171\">composition workshop<\/strong>.<br data-start=\"3172\" data-end=\"3175\" \/>\ud83d\udd39 Those who had worked on composition switched to <strong data-start=\"3226\" data-end=\"3251\">taonga p\u016boro crafting<\/strong>.<\/p><p data-start=\"3256\" data-end=\"3462\">As hands shaped instruments and sounds took form, the group began preparing for the <strong data-start=\"3340\" data-end=\"3373\">evening\u2019s composition sharing<\/strong>, where their learnings would be brought together in a collective celebration of sound.<\/p><p><strong>Haerenga ki te Taiao \u2013 A Journey to the Sounds of the Natural World<\/strong><br \/>In the afternoon, the w\u0101nanga ventured beyond the marae, embarking on a haerenga to Lake Kaniere and Arahura Awa. This was a powerful opportunity to engage with the oro of the taiao, listening deeply to the voices of the whenua, the wai, and the ngahere.<\/p><p>\ud83d\udd39 At Lake Kaniere, participants observed how water carries sound, reflecting on the lake\u2019s stillness and the way p\u016boro interacts with its vast space.<br \/>\ud83d\udd39 At Arahura Awa, the group connected with the heartbeat of the river, playing and composing in response to the ebb and flow of the wai.<\/p><p>As hands shaped instruments and compositions took form, the group began preparing for the evening\u2019s composition sharing, where their learnings would be woven into a collective celebration of sound.<\/p><p data-start=\"3464\" data-end=\"3799\">Later, as the <strong data-start=\"3478\" data-end=\"3490\">wharenui<\/strong> was filled with the voices of taonga p\u016boro, participants shared their compositions\u2014reflections of their connection to <strong data-start=\"3609\" data-end=\"3660\">the awa, the whenua, and the echoes of the past<\/strong>. The facilitators offered insights and reflections, and the evening closed with waiata and karakia, honoring the experiences of the day.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-a4ad395 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"a4ad395\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">He Oro Tukutuku \u2013 The Sound Continues<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-91a8b92 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"91a8b92\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p data-start=\"3854\" data-end=\"4019\">The <strong data-start=\"3858\" data-end=\"3890\">Arahura Taonga P\u016boro W\u0101nanga<\/strong> was more than a gathering\u2014it was a weaving of voices, a passing of knowledge, and a deep reconnection to whenua and whakapapa.<\/p><p data-start=\"4021\" data-end=\"4183\">We extend our heartfelt gratitude to he Haukainga<strong data-start=\"4058\" data-end=\"4074\">t<\/strong>, our incredible facilitators, and every participant who brought their wairua and whakaaro to this kaupapa.<\/p><p data-start=\"4185\" data-end=\"4346\">As the final notes of taonga p\u016boro faded into the air, one thing was clear\u2014<strong data-start=\"4260\" data-end=\"4344\">the echoes of Arahura will carry on, reverberating through all who were present.<\/strong><\/p><h3 data-start=\"4348\" data-end=\"4412\"><strong data-start=\"4352\" data-end=\"4410\">Haere tonu te oro \u2013 May the sound continue.
