As reflected in our Mahere Rautaki, this movement has always been about more than sound – it is about reconnection to atua, whenua, and whakapapa.<\/p>

To now see Taonga P\u016boro step onto the kapa haka stage in its own right signals something deeper:<\/p>

As described in the tohu documentation, Te Oro Atua speaks to the unseen origins of sound – the resonance of atua carried into the human world. The P\u016bt\u014drino, associated with Hine Raukatauri, stands as a vessel of both masculine and feminine voices, echoing across realms.<\/p>

Carved by Jo\u2019el Komene-R\u014dreka<\/a><\/span>, the taonga itself reflects not only artistry, but whakapapa – linking Te Whare Haka o Tainui, ng\u0101 atua, and the living breath of performance today.<\/p>

This is not just a trophy.<\/p>

There has been a revival of this craft over the last 30-40 years, led by the late Hirini Melbourne, Richard Nunns, Brian Flintoff and Ringinui Keefe, Joe Malcolm, Clem Mellish, Rangiiria Hedley, Aroha Yates Smith, and Hinewirangi Kohu Morgan, Ross and Bruce Gregory, Te Miringa Hohaia and others. Haumanu has grown from these initiatives.
