The Fono brought together voices from S\u0101moa, Aotearoa, Tonga, Fiji, American S\u0101moa and beyond &#8211; \u00a0creating a space for connection, reflection and exchange. These moments reminded everyone that this was not simply a conference about arts, but a living gathering of artists, instruments, stories and people.<\/p><p>One of the most powerful moments came during a collective presentation involving M\u0101ori, S\u0101moan and Tongan practitioners. These conversations reflected common questions faced by many Indigenous communities: how do we protect knowledge while making space for new learners? How do we ensure cultural practice remains connected to people, place and responsibility? How do we support artists and practitioners to sustain their mahi?<\/p><p>Throughout the Fono, participants spoke openly about the challenges facing arts and cultural practice in S\u0101moa. Resourcing, access to education, travel, documentation and the recovery of traditional knowledge were recurring themes. At the same time, there was a strong sense of determination among those present &#8211; particularly from practitioners leading initiatives from within their own communities.<\/p><p>These exchanges reinforced the value of relationships across the Pacific. Their presence drew warm responses from many of the people they met.<\/p><p>For Haumanu, this was a powerful example of what intergenerational transmission can look like. The journey to S\u0101moa demonstrated the value of this in practice: taonga p\u016boro were heard in new places, relationships were formed, and M\u0101ori approaches to cultural revitalisation were shared in a reciprocal way.<br \/>The experience also reminded us that cultural revitalisation is never finished.
