Taonga Pūoro Practitioner | General Manager, Haumanu Collective 

Eli Maiava is a passionate taonga pūoro practitioner, dedicated to the healing, artistic, and cultural power of ngā taonga pūoro. Her practice spans cultural celebrations, community education, rongoā Māori, and wellbeing spaces, where she uses pūoro to connect people with whakapapa, whenua, and wairua.
Alongside her artistry, Eli brings extensive experience in kaupapa-driven leadership. As the Founder and Kaiwhakahaere of Whare Manaaki o Te Tai Poutini in Māwhera, she has created a kaupapa-centred space where whānau come together to reclaim identity, share taonga tuku iho, and strengthen community resilience.

Now stepping into her role as General Manager of Haumanu Collective, Eli combines her deep commitment to taonga pūoro with her leadership skills in governance, community mobilisation, and advocacy. She will help guide Haumanu’s Pou framework—Governance & Operations, Advocacy & Communication, Sound & Playing, and Growth—to ensure taonga pūoro continues to flourish for future generations.

Her journey embodies manaakitanga, whanaungatanga, and aroha for taonga pūoro, making her a powerful advocate for both its revival and its place in contemporary life.
